In Greek mythology, the divine female beings Maenads are closely related to god Dionysus (Bacchus to the Romans), God supposedly originated in Thrace and Phrygia. The first maenads nymphs were the caregivers of Dionysus, which were then owned by him, who were inspired by mystical madness. This sets them against the Bacchae or Basárides, mortal women who emulate the maenads, engaged in orgiastic cult of Dionysus. In many sources Maenads and Bacchae are synonymous, meaning the meaning Bacchante Maenad Latino.
